The architectural design utilizes an additional 452 gross square feet of external alfresco. The architectural layout provides a terrace sun-drenched external area; suited for extended family or an artist in residence. The floor area synchronizes with local authority planning schemes that provide planning policy for ADU plans. The open-plan living area has raking plasterboard ceilings of the conform to passive solar design principles. The burnished concrete slab augment solar heat gain during the cooler winter months when correctly orientated onsite.
The ADU plans incorporates sustainability and energy-efficient design principles to maximize passive solar design principles. The heat sink absorbs the winter heat gain during daylight hours due to the sun’s lower azimuth. The radiant heat energy in the thermal mass of the dwelling.
The burnished concrete reinforced concrete slab heat sink releases the radiant heat energy through the cooler winter evening hours. The fenestration of the architectural layout integrates calculated sun shading to eliminate the worst of the summer heat gain through the while highlight windows expunge stale hot air using ‘stack effect’ ventilation principles.
