minimalist house design
The minimalist house design pays homage to the modernist movement and delivers open plan living for indoor-outdoor living.
The architectural spatial layout provides pragmatic passive solar design principles with expansive site views. The residence achieves a high energy efficiency rating with the correct solar aspect. The alfresco space that separates the living and bedroom zones under a roof with parapet. Accurately calculated eaves eliminate the low afternoon sun during the summer afternoons. Potable rainwater is harvested from the steel roof catchment area that flows via ultraviolet light filtration to rainwater storage tanks.
Visitors enter the open-plan living space via the side elevation of the architectural design. The entry is installed with a generous 8 feet/2400mm high double glazed timber pivot door. The passive solar design is accentuated through the clear anodized end-sliding doors which connect to the alfresco and terrace.
Rooftop solar hot water is specified as standard for the residence and can be boosted by a wood fuel firebox through the cooler winter months. The minimalist house design can also discretely accommodate photovoltaic electricity generation behind the parapet.
The architect’s design incorporates a cantilevered reinforced concrete slab. Alternatively, an Australian patented prefab footing system can create building budget savings rather than traditional pad footing design. The architectural specification selects the latest porcelain panel benchtops, Arte Domus mosaic tiles, Miele appliances and Blum Aventos lift overhead cupboards and timber floor finish.
The residence incorporates environmentally sustainable design principles for energy-efficiency and reduced running costs. Well considered living spaces capture the winter heat gain, with the sun’s lower azimuth, while eliminating summer heat gain. Highlight louver windows to the main living area increase natural light and ‘stack effect’ ventilation.
