The clean contemporary lines and finishes of the architectural design re-interprets a celebrated traditional vernacular form. Ideally sited on an elevated rural site, the residence is composed with restraint, favoring simple forms, honest materials and a calm relationship to its natural bush setting. Gabled rooflines orient towards long views across the site while gun metal grey cladding and rammed limestone lend permanence. Guest accommodation can be separated from the main living spaces, ensuring the house remains adaptable and comfortable across seasons.
The architectural design creates a cost effective 6 star energy efficient rated house with reduced energy maintenance costs. The residence consists of 2,799 square feet/260 square meters of gross floor area in addition to 922 square feet/86 square meters of alfresco. With the architectural design’s orientation for passive solar design and raking plasterboard ceilings. The design satisfies passive solar design with open-plan living space for solar heat gain during the cooler winter months.
The open-plan living space is the centrally located focal point of the energy efficient design. The architectural layout connects the terrace/alfresco to the open-plan living via the 8 feet/2400mm high clear anodized door perimeter. The aluminium end-sliding doors transform the residence into indoor outdoor living during the spring and autumn seasons. The architectural design showcases memorable spaces The residence can be specified as reinforced slab-on-ground construction or utilize a patented prefab footing system.
The residence’s material palette incorporates gun metal grey single-lock standing seam steel, hardwood flooring and stained fire-rated timber cladding to gable ends. The residence achieves visually distinct spaces on a small budget to enrich daily life. The services include a solar hot water and double-sided firebox for wood fuel boosting during the winter months. The visitors are greeted with generous 8 feet/2400mm high glazed doors that usher into the open plan living areas. The architect designed kitchen that incorporates the latest porcelain panel bench-tops with waterfall edge, Blum Adventos lift colored back glass overhead cupboards and Madinoz fixtures and fittings.
